Greetings from Cairo

It was a busy two weeks for the Primafila team in Egypt.

Filmmaker Oliver Wilkins, producer Ahmed Khairat, journalist Manu Abdo, photographer Roger Anis and myself were in Egypt to document the progress of Siemens’ megaproject that will add 16.4 GW generating capacity to the national grid over the next years.

We published a film for Siemens Egypt – which has since gone viral on Egyptian social media – to launch their new brand campaign and celebrate an important project milestone.

Just days after the release, we traveled back to the construction site of what will be the world’s biggest power plant in Beni Suef – two hours south of Cairo – to film a longer documentary and to talk to some of the future operators of the plant.

With summer already well underway and temperatures just under 40 degrees, outdoor filming was restricted to very early in the morning and late in the afternoon. But let’s face it, nothing trumps a power plant construction site in the sunset to stir up emotions!
