New Perspectives in Hanoi
Writer Glenn van Zutphen and photographer Hans Sautter, both long-standing Primafila correspondents, found themselves faced with some unfamiliar situations while working in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.
Glenn van Zutphen, author:
“Recently, on assignment for Primafila near Hanoi with photographer Hans Sautter, we were lost in a huge industrial estate, surrounded by rice paddies and massive high-tension power lines. The contrast between old and new was striking. With no street signs, our local driver was lost for an hour trying to find the factory we were there to document for Primafila’s client Bystronic. All we could do was laugh and enjoy the scenery.”
Hans Sautter, photographer:
“The photo assignment in Hanoi was not business as usual. My perspective had changed. Recent Achilles tendon surgery made me travel in and photograph from a wheelchair. The different perspective turned out to be beneficial. Moving around in a rolling chair is less remote and right in the middle of things: face to face with children and closer to seated adults. And face to face with cows.”
